UPGRADING IN A SOFT MARKET

A couple of weeks ago, a business acquaintance was enquiring about mid-range properties that were currently available. During our conversation it came to light that his daughter was looking to upgrade her home. I was struck by this action as something many people may not consider in the present set of financial circumstances, but on closer examination it became clearer and made good sense. She has good equity, she has a good repayment history and good work prospects in the immediate future despite having a very young family. Her current property is well within her means and the present climate of low interest rates affords her the opportunity of moving up to a much better property if she buys well, (& there are some property bargains out there at the moment), without greatly increasing her monthly obligations and probably assuring her of better capital growth as the market recovers.

Nothing is guaranteed, but here was someone thinking outside the usual ‘cautious’ box and doing some serious homework to hopefully improve their circumstances. Is it worth considering your options?
